does backup in 2005 and later not shrink transaction log?

someone told me that sql server database backup in sql server 2005 and later do not truncate the transaction log. is this true? (i didn’t think it was and can’t find anything to suggest this is true)
No , it isn’t true , it still truncate transaction log backup
Can you provide a link for this as i find conflicting entries online for this?
What kind of proof do yo need?
Just a simple microsoft or msdn link to technically backup and explain my point. As my colleague has a link to backup his incorrect claim. Many thanks.
