EM hangs network (I think)

Recently I was designing a small ASP.Net application with an SQL server backend. All was going well until my "pc" got really slow. After investigating the slowdown occurs when Enterprise Manager is connected to my server (SQL Server 2000 on a Win2k3). All applications that use the network (SourceSafe, explorer, but IExplorer seems not to be affected, only when opening a new window…) hang every 15 seconds for about 15 seconds. Even an explorer window that is open on a local drive hangs. Any thoughts? Tnx

Hi satya I forgot to mention it, I have allready checked event viewer en task manager. Nothing is wrong… I also launched profiler but I can’t see anything that could cause the problem. I have also scanned both the workstation as the server on virusses and spyware. Tnx for the info.

More info: Network activity is 0%, CPU is very low… I have deleted the SQL server that I thought was causing the problem. But connecting to an other sql server hangs the system as well. I guess it is a local problem, I’ll try to reïnstall EM. Version info is 8.0, I’m not sure if the latest patches are installed. Is it ok to reïnstall them?

Better to uninstall everything related to SQL server and remove registry keys too for MSSQLServer, reboot the box and then install the SQL. Check what is the service pack version on OS too/ _________

I have updated SQL server admin tools to SP3 but to no avail. I’ll try to reïnstall the whole thing.

BTw, are the AUTO_CLOSE & AUTO_SHRINK set on databases? _________

I have removed the client tools and all registery settings. Installed all from scratch (incl SP3). Same issue. AUTO_CLOSE and AUTO_SHRINK are not enabled. I have also tried to make a db connection from VS.Net and this works without the hang issue, so for now I can work, but I like to get EM back up and workable.

Then install the client tools and latest patches too. _________

I have cleared all sql server registrations and added them again. (If that is what you meant.) It’s really strange, other applications seem to work fine except Windows Explorer and SourceSafe. Internet Explorer isn’t affected… More ideas?
If you’d performed the clean install and still having issues means the only option is to reach MS Support for any fix or patch. As I can’t reproduce the behaviour at my end as what you specify. _________
