Error attempting to install client tools

I am attempting to install the client tools only from the SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition on a new IBM Thnkpad T43 running Windows XP Pro SP2 and receive the following error. "Setup has detected an existing client tools only installation. Please use the maintenance mode to add client components" Laptop is imaged using ghost and installs the most basic software (XP, Office, Adobe, dialer, IE, etc) No additional software was added and I tried this on two separate laptops with the same results. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Joe

May be I wrong with this but, can you install SQL 2000 Developer tools in XP?

Hi,<br />if the error is "Setup has detected an existing client tools only installation. Please use the maintenance mode to add client components" means installtion is already their (from ghost image) search for the client tool folder and uninstall them and then re-install new client tool ?<br /><br /><img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-1.gif’ alt=’:)‘ /><br />Regards<br /><br />Hemantgiri S. Ive had times where ive had to search the registry, deleting old entries referring to sql server, because the install/uninstall didnt work properly. This was preventing me installing sql server (albeit its never happened to me for client tools only). Deleting the entries fixed it.

Also I suggest to stop Firewall until you finish the client tool installation. Satya SKJ

To all, Thanks for responses, I was finally able to install the client tools this morning. Seems I had to use the standard edition instead of the developers edition. The standard edition allows client tools only to be installed. Thanks again for your help… joe
