Failure of SQL 2000 installation

I have just reformatted and reinstalled my window 2000 server, which I had SQL 2000 server installed before. But when I tried to reinstall SQL 2000 server again, it seems like it could not be installed. The installing process went to the last step: "… starting sql service and congifuring window…", then the screen never changed but with this message on it. <br /><br />Can anyone help me this this issue? Thanks a lot. [<img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-6.gif’ alt=’:(‘ />]
Have a look thru in REGISTRY for MSSQLServer keys and remove them, make a reboot after that and reinstall again. Satya SKJ

Satya suggestion is worth checking out if you have NOT done a clean reformat. So when you say reformat, do you mean that you completely wiped out the harddrive and reinstalled windows? If so, then the registry is obviously built from scratch, and no registry keys should be there related to SQL Server.

This article gives you more idea about what I was referring above: http://www.windows2000faq.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=14039 Satya SKJ

You may also want to check the security. You must be a local admin of the server, and the accounts you are using for the service accounts should be local admins of the server.

Thank you for replying quickly, even I have tried to clean up everything, including registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesMSSQLServer<br />HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSSQLServer <br />and reboot the machine, then re-install SQL server, it is still in same situation: freezing on "setup is starting the server and installing your chosen configuration…"<br /><br />mlcy44 [<img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-6.gif’ alt=’:(‘ />][<img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-6.gif’ alt=’:(‘ />]
Check the 16th point referred in the above article, that it may be issue with hard disk speed. HTH Satya SKJ

Is there any information in sqlstp.log? check the last entry in that log. /Argyle
Thanks for everyone’s help. Finally I found out what the reason caused that: the security issue of window’s. Problem solved. <img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-1.gif’ alt=’:)‘ /><br /><br />mlcy44 <img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-1.gif’ alt=’:)‘ />
