You don’t want people to be able to look at the structure of the database? Have them uninstall Enterprise Manager or restrict their access to the instance. If they have access to the instance, they can see the structure of the database. They won’t be able to change it or edit data without appropriate permissions, but they can see it. Why is this an issue? Are the table structures an ingenious, top secret design that’s going to someday revolutionize the world as we know it??? MeanOldDBA

You will be better of if you manage your roles and users rights so that you can control them. If you uninstall the EM, then you will not be able to active in case of an emegency —————————————-

I was talking about uninstalling it from developer the other people’s machines. [<img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-1.gif’ alt=’:)‘ />] You could then monitor to see who is accessing with EM. Either way, I would like to know why it’s that big of a deal for someone to see the structure.<br /><br />MeanOldDBA<br />[email protected]<br /><br />When life gives you a lemon, fire the DBA.
Anyone can obtain SQL client tools easily and even though if you can avoid by uninstalling from developers machines. In that case ensure security is not compromised and follow as suggested by DInesh,http://vyaskn.tripod.com/sql_server_security_best_practices.htm for your information. Satya SKJ

This seems to be an annoyingly frequent request. It is not EM that gives people the ability to do things you don’t want them to. It is the permissions you granted them.

I believe this is a common mis-interpretation about Enterprise Manager and its flaky features, this has been addressed thorougly in SQL 2005 by replacing it with Management studio. Satya SKJ
