How to Start SQL Server in single user mode

Hello all, Can some one please help me know how to start SQL Server 2005 in single user mode. Can i restore master database on 2005, the master backup file which is taken from SQL 2000. If so what all the steps i need to take before restore master database on SQL 2005. Thanks,
