Installation of SQL server 2000

I tried to install SQL Server 2000 (Ent’ Edition)
on Dell Machine with Windows Advance Server. The installation failed until I changed during installation the option Auto-Start service when OS starts to off. Someone has an idea WHY ??? Thanks,
Oryan
Brand new instalation, or upgrade?

When you say that the installation failed, what error message did you get? /Argyle
By checking SQLSTP.LOG from Windows directory for detailed information.
Also go thru event viewer for OS information about installation. Satya SKJ

Hello I didn’t get error message during the installtion.
I didn’t find erorrs in SQLSTP.LOG
The installation was stucked in (because it tried to starting SQL Server Service without succeed)
The form that the istallation stucked in was: "Setup is starting the server and installation your choosen configuration". Oryan
Let me see if I follow:
1) You have OS Windows Advanced Server with last Service Pack.
2) You stop services no neccesary you ask in other post http://www.sql-server-performance.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2684 3) You install SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition and when it stick, you
a) Reboot Server?
b) Kill installation via Task Manager? 4) After 3) you don’t find errors in SQLSTP neither event viewer. 5) Reintall SQL Server with auto start off. 6) All is Ok, no messages error at all. Right?

And, after kill instalation, did you uninstall SQL before try again?

After I killed the installation before I installed it again (without choose AUTOSTART services for MSSQLServer & MSSQLAgent) I unistalled it.
I didn’t find erorrs in SQLSTP.LOG and event viewer also, but before I unistalled SQL I tried to start the MSSQLServer Service and it didn’t start, the error message was unknown. Oryan
You should report this problem to Microsoft. Luis Martin …Thus mathematics may be defined as the subject in which we never know what we are talking about, nor whether what we are saying is true.

Well, before that I recommend to review the process again (list out the process you’re following). WHile uninstalling or deleting MSSQL directories, consider removing REGISTRY KEYS referenced by MSSQLSERVER key and reboot the box. Satya SKJ
