Instance Name Question

All: Our 2000 servers use dashes in the hostname / instance name. Is this going to cause a problem for our 2005 servers? I remember having an issue naming a 2005 server using a dash (xxx-xxxxxx). But I can’t remember off of the top of my head if it was a dash or another character and BOL wasn’t much help. Thoughts?
I don’t think it is dash may be someother character…because one of my machine name has dash (-) in it and I installed SQL server 2000 and 2005. Mohammed U.

For managebility it is suggested not to use any special characters in servername, if you can live with it then I don’t see any problem unless you have any older versions to upgrade. Satya SKJ
