licensing per processor

I have a question regarding the licensing of MSSQL 2005. If I license SQL for only one processor and I’m actually using more than that does SQL still run normally or does it detect that I’m running it incorrectly? We’re running SQL 2000 now and we are looking at putting 2005 into the test environment and the server that we want to test has multiple processors. Any insight would be appreciated.
You may need to configure sql server to use only one processor, sql uses all processors if you don’t configure it to use one irrespective of your licencing model… Check with MS sales team about how licencing model works in this scenarion…

Thanks for the help. My boss is paranoid. He is worried that if we install it on a server with multiple processors it will shut off if it’s not licensed properly.
Double- check if your boss checks the threads in the forum here…[<img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-2.gif’ alt=’:D‘ />]
Bosses are too busy going to meetings to frequent internet forums.
In SQL 2005 you need not worry about how many or licensing information to input, only if in case any audit is performed you need to have valid number of licenses, ask your boss to take a break and look to arrange paper licenses for the number of adopted. Satya SKJ
