Location of SQL Server System Databases

I have a two-node clustered SQL Server system attached to a Clariion EMC CX700 SAN. In order to accomplish snapshot backups via Legato Networker,EMC are telling me that they need to load a software module that has a pre-requisite that SQL system databases must be on a different LUN to user databases. All databases are currently on one LUN presented to the server as volume D: Are there any recommendations on where system databases should be stored? Can I place them on C? Or would it be better to create another separate LUN for them? Thanks

I was asking whether or not the system databases can be placed on the operating system volume? Are there are best practices for placement of system databases? Also, you say that system databases MUST be separated from user databases, but I can’t find any documentation that categorically states this. We’ve been running this server with both user and system databases on the same LUN for a long time with no issues, so I’d be grateful if you have any more information.
In any case it is better to keep system databases for OS and user database, as you say there is no issues with current setup of User & System database on same disk then continue as it is. http://www.sql-server-performance.com/hardware_tuning.asp fyi. Satya SKJ
