Measuring current I/O rate

Hi: I am planning on gathering some baseline information that can be used when evaluating options for future system upgrades etc. One of the things I have not been able to do is measure the current I/O rate of a particular volume. The numbers that can be used to create the input for a utility such as SQLIO. How do other gather this information? Thanks
