Memory allocation / 3 GB Switch

Hi All, I am looking for some guidelines on how to best configure SQL server for performance. In particular, I am interested in understanding how much memory to allocate to the db application itself (using AWE to prevent disk swapping) – for example, if a box has 8GB of physical memory, how much should be allocated to MSSQL vs. what’s reserved for the OS/any other applications that might be running on the box (Windows 2000 Advanced Server/Windows 2000 Professional Edition/Windows 2000 Server/Windows Server 2003)? I am also interested in understanding the impact of using the /3GB switch on SQL performance. Thanks in advance Sajid
