Minimum space required by OS

Hi Experts, My database server is on cluster. All database files are on SAN. But C: where OS is installed (WINDOWS 2003 with SP1) has got very low space(595 MB). My question is what is minimum space recomended for on C drive where OS is installed? Thanks in Advance Regards
Sachin

500mb is sensible, but make sure it doesn’t follow below this level for contingency purpose. Satya SKJ

Microsoft recommends that an NTFS volume have at leat 20% free space. Any amount less that this can negatively affect performance. —————————–

You need to check from system adminsitrators as well to care of Operating system binaries and page file etc. Satya SKJ

Hi Brad / Satya,
Do we have any msdn / technet / other article for this recommendation?? "Microsoft recommends that an NTFS volume have at leat 20% free space. Any amount less that this can negatively affect performance." Also I am wondering does above recommendation holds true for NTFS volume on SAN as well? Thanks

There isn’t any specific link or article in this case, but if you look at any hotfix or service pack or even SQL SErver installation file on the readme contents it will state how much is required for that installation. So taking this into consideration at any time 20% is required in order to perform future upgrades. Satya SKJ
