named pipes disabled (and no tcp/ip access either)

hi… hopefully someone has an answer to this… my sql server wasn’t communicating via tcp/ip. as i was troubleshooting i disabled named pipes and now of course enterprise manager can’t communicate with sql server either. is there any way to restore a connection to sql server (locally)? or do i have to reinstall sql server? thanks…

try to set up/enable named pipe and tcp / ip from your binn directory …

hi, how can i do that? i tried using the network utility and it says it can’t connect because it’s part of a cluster. is there any other way? thanks…

Check from server network utility on server and ensure TCP/IP is an enabled protocol.
Refer to this KBAhttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q328306 for the error you’re getting such as SQL SErver does not exist or access denied. Satya SKJ

thanks for the suggestions… installing sp4 fixed the connectivity issue…

By default SP4 use named-pipes and this fixed by restarting the services with required protocols. Satya SKJ
