NAS (Network Attached Storage) for SQL

I understand that NAS (Network Attached Storage) does well in file sharing and storage consoliation. Is it even viable (worth the time) to look into using NAS for SQL server disk storage? Is NAS a viable option in terms of performance? Thanks in advance.

i am not inclined to recommend NAS for performance critical DB apps,
i really don’t buy into the arguments for NAS and SAN on consolidating islands of storage into a shared pool it might make sense if the cost per disk was comparable to direct attach, but is typically 4-5X higher, so why does it make sense to save the unused space in DA?
also, sequential performance generally stinks in NAS and even SAN
