online backup

Can I perform backup procedure online? Many users will be using the same database. Will it be possible for me to take during that time the entire database without disturbing the users using enterprise manager backup utility?

Yes, you can take backups online. And except for a little performance overhead on the server, your users won’t be affected by this.

Yes you can, if your are using SQL2000 and good HW, users can not note to much.

I have never seen any performance issue in executing backup statement on a 40GB database at my end, as suggested by Luis if the server is resource enough to cope up. Keep in mind if you execute to do a local backup there wouldn’t be any issues, if any network path is involved or any third party tool then it might give troubles. HTH _________
