Possible to restore SQL 2005 EE to Std?

The former DBA installed more than the licensed number of SQL Server 2005 EE SP1 and I have to get them down to Standard. No explicitly-Enterprise Edition functionality is being used.

There are a couple hundred SQL Logins and passwords that I’d like to keep.

Anyone try this before? Attach or restore Master DB from a SQL 2005 EE SP1 installation to the same in Standard Edition?

I have my doubts, but if possible this may be a trivial exercise. It is an 8-5 shop with 400 users. I also find myself without being able get a Standard installation set up in order to test it, for a couple weeks yet. [:I]

If I can’t keep the Logins then since I’ll be disturbing the enterprise quite a bit anyway, I’m thinking about moving to integrated security for all the apps that support it.

Thanks for any info.
