Question on SAN

Hi there, it happens that our IT staff is asking me on hardware consideration for our datawarehouse.
Now, what I know, is everything is on a SAN (Assume, that I don’t know exactly what this is). Question 1: Is it possible to restore a db, even if the size of that db is larger than the free space on a single drive in the SAN?

SANs are often contrasted with less expensive Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices. SANs provide direct and exclusive access to data storage through a private Fibre Channel networking system, whereas NAS devices generally attach to a common network for the purpose of sharing files. I think its possible if you use split mirroed backups, refer to this linkhttp://www.sqlmag.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=22750 for more information on split mirror backup/restore. HTH _________

Thanks again, when you look at my profile you might wonder why they asked me anyhow.
Answer is, I don’t know! I don’t know much about hardware, but helped them and our developers on several occasions. They just wanted to hear my opinion on this and I gave them your link. The one above I found via search before, but don’t ask what from this I do understand []

I’ll bet they hire a consultant on this!

Frank<br /http://www.insidesql.de
Thought you would get more (££ or €) out of it [8D]. _________
