re-create customer dbs

I was trying to restore customer dbs at my lab server.
I restored the user db from customer’s backup file,
and rebuilt master from customer’s master backup file
as well -> I cannot connect the db (start the service). I guess that if their database is build on E:
and mine is on D:, there would be a problem for the
master, and possibly other dbs to function once being
restored in my lab machine. Any insights is appreciated.

I don’t think that is the razon.
If fact, db customer in E can restore in any drive logical or physical in your lab (I did).
I think may be there is other problem, like space or Services Pack.
If space is Ok, try reinstalling SP.

Not sure why you would want to overwrite your master database with theirs?

Service Pack?
That is a good question. THis customer had their SP upgraded
for existing database. They are the only one had all kinds of
strange problems. Other customers actually had SP3 installed
and then created the data afterwards.
I would think SP upgrade should be safe for data.
