Removing built-in administrator disables SQL Agent

Hi fellow DBAs, In a bit to increase security, I recently removed the built-in admin a/c in sql server. Before that, I created a new SQL Server a/c granted with sysadmin privileges called SQLAdmin. This SQLAdmin a/c is also created in W2K server and granted administrator rights. Everything looks fine however later I realised that the SQL Agent could not be started properly & that the backup schedule did not run. Did I miss out any steps?
THen use SQLAgent with that newly created account or any other account with proper privileges. Satya SKJ

Do I need to grant execute permissions on xp_sqlmaint in master DB to this a/c?
If you’re using an account with admin privileges then no need, if not you can assign certain level of permission. Satya SKJ
