Replication Vs LogShipping

Hi Guys, Can you please tell me which one is best way to implement Reporting Server whether Logshipping or Transactional Replication. FYI : Requirement is users has to use the database continuouly like 24/7… Thanks,

If you want upto the minute data without users disconnect (24×7) then replication is the answer… Logshipping: When ever log restores, you need to kill the users to restore the logs but if your reporting server can OK with one day old data… you can restore the full db daily at night for reporting….

First thinking is what sort of high availability option you are looking, if it is for reporting purpose then choose replication for the required tables in reporting. For the sake of standby server provision log shipping is effective and works as a total database availability soluiton, with a limited option of using the SEcondARY server as a query server.
From you thread it sounds like you are looking for availability option, if it is for total server then choose clustering which has other points to consider. For the database level log shipping is effecftive in this regard. Satya SKJ

Thank you Guys Actually i’m not looking for High Availablity. I want to set up Server for Reporting use only.
From your suggestions for Reporting use Transactional Replication will be good.
Could you guys send me some whitepapers for setting up transactional Replication since I’m very new to SQL Server DBA stuff only 5 months. This is the first time i;m going to setup Replication. Also i wanted to know that what are the limitations and difficulties involved in transactional Replication Setup.
FYI : The database size is 60 Gb. I would really appreciate all your help in this matter. Thanks,
