Restricted file growth

Maximum file size for Data and Log files has been set to unrestricted file growth and the file growth is set to 10%. How about if I set the Maximum file size to restricted file growth? Do I lose anything by this setting? I get a full backup every night. Also, backup the trani logs every hour during work hours.

But if you run rebuild indexes or because normal grow of database, you will have problems when SQL try to expand log or data. If need to control space, is better to set grow in MB, but unlimited.

Setting the maximum file size by restricting auto grow will give you chance to monitor the database growth at regular intervals. There will not be any downside as long as you monitor the database growth. Satya SKJ
