SAN Configuration – Data on SAN but Logs on SCSI?
Do you see any issues with the data (500GB) being on a RAID 10 SAN partition and log files being stored on SCSI drives? Thanks, DaveIm bit surprised how come Joe Chang missed this post [<img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-1.gif’ alt=’

Thanks Satya. I elected to place the data and log files on the SAN, rather then splitting them with data files on the SAN and the log files on SCSI. The thought being from a disaster perspective it simplifies the failover process. It also didn’t make much sense to keep the logs on SCSI and risk having data writes being delayed as the server waits for SQL Server to complete the log write activity before writing data to the faster SAN drives. The link you sent is very informative. I need to read more about calculating I/O per second. That’s not one of my strongest areas. Dave
True on the aspects of the data & disaster recovery, if the disk is fast enough to accomodate the read and writes I don’t see any issue or stress of seperating the data and log files. Satya SKJ
