search on text fields

1. Is full text search any good when anything can be searched on? 2. how is full text search best used.
I haven’t used it fully but so far it was giving better results for the search based queries, I would suggest to refer to the books online for more information. Satya SKJ

I am looking for real life experiences with this. I assume this is good when u know what words or pharases will be searched on…..thus create a catalog……create indexes on these words or pharases.

I’ve tested it, it works well, and is easy to set up, code for and maintain. Tom Pullen

do you allow searches on any text??

Any text column that’d been FTI’d. I must add that we just did this in testing, a custom written bolt-on to Peoplesoft. In the end the developers found it wasn’t needed as performance was ok without it. But our testing worked very well. Tom Pullen

just wondering if this is good when any words or phrased can be searched on. …have to test it out.
