Severe Fragmentation

I’m running SQL 6.5 on an NT box that is severly fragmented, my datafile is almost 11 GB and the drive stores over 200 GB of picture files (this is a driver license system). Will this hamper performance and possibly cause the db to be corrupt? ———-

Its always advisable to keep the disks defragmented. Here %age free space also comes into picture. Gaurav

Did you see any information or messages on event viewer and SQL error log, and any issues on performance? _________

Just doing some research mainly… Will a severly fragmented drive corrupt a database? ———-

It won’t corrupt the data unless your harddrive gives out because it’s being worked to death. Also, there will be a significant improvement in speed once you’ve defragmented. HTH,

True, as Gaurav and Lalong referred its better to keep them defrag’d. You may not know disaster is waiting at next door…. Please, please upgrade from 6.5, you life will be much easier and performance will increase. SQL Server 6.5 has a bad tendency to get corrupt, as you probably know. Although fragementation by itself won’t cause it, it will probably eventually become corrupt just to irritate you. —————————–
