SQL 2000 and Xeon Dual Core

Hello, We have a SQL 2000 STD running on two 3GHz HT Xeon processor and we need to buy a better server. Is two 2’8GHz Xeon Dual Core processor server a good option?? Does SQL recognize the two dual core processors and use them? thanx in advance. Regards
Yes the processor is not a limitation for SQL Server.
What is the current problem with the hardware?

Thanks Satya We are studying scalating the server hardware to adapt to our new demands, as our company staff has grown heavily through this last two years…

… take your time to read thru the above links for better understanding on the capacity planning. The best way to optimize your IO subsystem is to have effecient queries. In some cases, ALL the IO problems were gone becuase of reindexing. In all cases… lot’s of the problems were greatly minimized… You can take help of PROFILER and PERFMON to monitor the issues on SQL server.
I would also suggest to take a capacity testing on current hardware and plan accordingly to cater the growth for next 3 to 5 years. Satya SKJ
