SQL 2005 Install

Do I have to use one of the two methods "In Place Upgrade" Or "Side by Side Upgrade" if I’m putting SQL 2005 on a new server that doesn’t have SQL 7.0 or 2000 or it? But later I may take production data (SQL 2000) and move it over to the new server which has SQL 2005 ?
