SQL Cluster hardware config

Can anyone tell me what Microsoft’s recommendation for Hardware on a cluster that is also replicating and log shipping? Or any other ideas? Please see below. host server
Controller 1 – Raid 1 Mirror – operating system and SQL application
Controller 2 – Raid 5 Transaction logs, and backups – or should these be mirrored and separated? Powervault
Raid 10 – for the data and the quorum – or should the quorum be mirrored on a different controller from the data?

Microsoft’s website gives you their minimum recommendations for each of these option separately, but I have never seen them all added up. In reality, how the system is used will directly affect the hardware required, and since we don’t know exactly what will be happening in your case, it is hard to make a specific recommendation. What you have described should would in most cases. Ideally though, the array with the logs and backups should ideally be on RAID 10, or mirrored, as RAID 5 is a little slow for the heavy writes that will occur on this array. Maybe you could have one mirror for the logs and another mirror for the backups. —————————–
