SQL DST inquiry (NS)

I wanted to confirm any DST issues with SQL Server, particularly w/respect to Notification Services. Our shop is having its server patching cycle, and need to know if the DST fix is applicable for SQL. RE:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931815 Some of our SQL 2005 installs were installed with all components including Notification Services. While I don’t think its currently being used, my managers wanted the update applied b/c its there. However, please confirm, even though the component is installed, it needs to be set up and its database installed. I don’t see any NS databases on the affected servers. What db does the script need to be applied to? Also, if NS services is later deployed after March 11, 2007, does the script still need be applied? Please advise?
Even though if it is not used by any other application you are still need to apply that patch as specified in that KBA article (one of the best practices). Satya SKJ

Thanks, Satya. I understand the best practices need for sure, but if you look at the KBA, what db do I need to apply the script to? It says the NSMainDB, but even though the NS is installed, I don’t see a NSMainDB. ??
If you haven’t got the database then you need not to, but make sure to apply if you are planning to deploy NS in the future [<img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-5.gif’ alt=’;)‘ />].<br /><br /><b>Satya SKJ</b><br />Microsoft SQL Server MVP<br />Writer, Contributing Editor & Moderator<br /<a target="_blank" href=http://www.SQL-Server-Performance.Com>http://www.SQL-Server-Performance.Com</a><br /><center><font color="teal"><font size="1">This posting is provided AS IS with no rights for the sake of <i>knowledge sharing. <hr noshade size="1">The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind.</i></font id="size1"></font id="teal"></center>
More than likely, this will be in future patches for SQL server.
