SQL mail

If I have to configure SQL server 2000 to send emails alerts, I had to configure an email profile on SQL Server 2000 box. Is the same case with SQL Server 2005 aswell? Database mail in 2005. Is it something different than the earlier versions? Appreciated if someone share some thoughts on this. Thanks,
Cali

SQL mail is deprecated in sql server 2005 which uses MAPI profile where database mail in newly introduced in 2005 which uses SMTP. If you want to use sql mail in 2005 it is the same as 2000 but I don’t see any reason to use sql mail in 2005 when you have database mail… You don’t need to install outlook for database mail… SQL Server 2005 Books Online
