SQL Server 2000 Instalation failure

Hi, My boss is facing this problem… Any recommendations? SQL Server 2000 Instalation on Windows 2000 (and NT)Server Failure: SQL Server 2000 installation is reaching to one stage where I can see the following message
"Setup is starting the server and installing your chosen configuration…" After this, instalation is not progressing. I waited more than 3 hours. Nothing is happening. After this, I uninstalled and reinstaled again. Again it stopped at the same place that was explained above. I tried installation on Windows NT Server also. Encountered same problem. Any sugestions or solutions to this problem….. Gaurav
Is Virus scanner installed in the system if not install and try.
or
Start installation with a other copy of sql server 2000 and apply service packs
then it will work. Rushendra
Find out for more details from SQLSTP.LOG (may be stored under windows directory).
BTW what is the SP level on Win2K & NT? Also check from Control panel whether Client for MS Networks is missing or is not set as the Primary Network Logon. _________

Did you see any error or warning in the file? (anywhere)
Try installing after full SP levels on OS.
First of all remove the referenced registry keys and delete the directory, reboot the server and try fresh installation. _________

I agree with satya on the cleanup of the registry, since it is known that SQL Server can sometimes leave the registry in an unclean state.
"How do you expect to beat me when I am forever?"
Hi I too agree with satya words i.e cleaning up the registry entries of sql and
then apply all service packs of NT and then try with sql installation. Rushendra
Thanks for all the replies. I’ll impelement these suggestions and get back to you guys. Gaurav

Hey guys, there was a problem with the dump that I was using. Installed it form CD and it went fine. Sometimes these small things are neglected. Anyway I have taken a lesson from here – Never install anything from Dumps or anu other unreliable source. Installation can be corrupt / virus affected. Thanks for all the advice. Gaurav
Oh well I thought you have forgotten this thread, anyway glad to know the result.
So when is your appreciation due from your boss. _________

The same ‘hanging’ problem occurred when I tried installing from a shared CD on the network but worked fine when I put the CD into server drive. I guess there is much more to this kind of behaviour than viruses or other sorts of corruption. NHO
Ive had this too. Our servers dont have DVD drives, and yet the sql distro I had was an MSDN DVD. Installing across the network from a network share to my DVD drive failed the installer (not even gracefully). Copying the required folder to the server and installig from hard drive did the trick thouh, luckily
Well as far as appreciation goes, I think My boss is gonna say – "Why couldn’t you think of this before?" <img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-1.gif’ alt=’:)‘ />) <br />Anyway I am happy this worked out. I see others have also had the same problem so I guess, using the CD’s is the best solution. <br /><br />Thanks guys!<br /><br />Gaurav
