SQL Server 2005 registry
I just want to get a basic understanding of the following registry: SQL Server 2005 Default Instance (Database Engine and OLAP) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server90This seems to be registry for non-instance specific data. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1
This seems to be registry for Database Engine instance HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2
This seems to be registry for OLAP instance HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSSQLServerClient
This seems to be registry for the settings of SQL Native Client Configuration HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSSQLServerMSSQLServer
This seems to be registry for the Default Instance but it seems to contain information which is very similar to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1. I hope someone can explain this more. I notice that for a named instance, the registry will be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Serverxxx where xxx is the instance name. Thanks for any help.

Hi dineshasanka, I have also read that section of BOL but it only mentions 2 out of the 5 registry I’m interested: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1
This seems to be registry for Database Engine instance HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2
This seems to be registry for OLAP instance
Updated info: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSSQLServerClientConnectTo
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSSQLServerClientDB-Lib
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSSQLServerClientSNI9.0
These registry seems to be for the settings of SQL Native Client Configuration.
