SQL Server 2005 replacing SQL2K or side by side?

Hi, Can I install SQL Server 2005 and keep SQL Server 2000 at the same time? Or will SS2005 replace SQL2K? If SS2005 replaces SQL2K (on my laptop), can I still continue to use it the "SQL Server 2000" way? Because our dev environment is still .NET Framework 1.1 and SQL2K. The purpose is to allow me to play around with SS2005 locally while not impacting projects of our current dev environment. Thanks in advance for any help.
In my laptop I have sql 2000 and sql 2005 (named instanced) and no problem.
