SQL Server Licenses

What’s the trade-off of buying sql server license by CPU or number of users? Will it be better to buy by CPU? What are some of the factors that should be considered? Any ideas, links. Thank you. Jon M
It really depends on the number of users, and the version of SQL Server you buy (as Standard and Enterprise cost quite a bit different). For example, our company has about 20 SQL Server boxes, each with from 2 to 4 CPUs, but we only have about 400 users who access these same boxes. In our case, it is much less expensive to purchase per user licenses than per CPU licenses. Essentially, you need to determine the cost of licensing under both methods, and figure out which is cheaper, overall for your company. Other than than, there are no benefits of per user vs per processor licensing. —————————–
