SQL Server Temp Database Management

I would like to run a maintenance command overnight on the SQL Server, that manages the size of the temp database. Is this possible?
– You need a stop/start to downsize it. – I wouldn’t downsize tempdb because it materializes your sql-workspace, so maybe the next day your server will suffer file-extentions to everyboddy’s regret ! (unless offcourse it grew due to exceptional stuff)
