SQL2000 SP4 release date?

Anyone heard anything on SQL2000 SP4 release. We have the Beta and are wondering if anyone knows when they will release the real version.

Talked to a tech today and they said that it was due to be released on the 29th of April, but there were some hangups but it literally could be released any day…
Good news, then.

Would it be good to install sp4 or its better to wait this service pack to get settled as i think its beta version.
Plz let me know ur comments before i install it on my integrated server.
It’s not beta anymore. This is the official release. My plan is: 1. Wait a month.
–Come up with a test plan based on fix list.
–Monitor forums and tech news for problems.
2. Test on dev for a couple weeks.
3. Test on QA, UAT, RELEASE for a week.
4. Move to production a week later. I wouldn’t be hasty about moving this directly onto a production system. MeanOldDBA

I’ve used that on all the service packs. It saved my job on a couple of the old ones (6.5 and 7.0). I just think it’s good to be diligent and make sure you’ve tested a release like this really well. MeanOldDBA

[] I’ll let everyone know how it goes. I’m hoping all the testing and waiting on other people to "iron it out" will prevent any of them from hitting production.

MeanOldDBA
[email protected]

When life gives you a lemon, fire the DBA.

I tried to install SP4 on a test machine that has 3 instances. As per the instruction I stopped the instance I was upgrading because I wanted to try to avoid a machine restart. (From the Readme "You can reduce the likelihood that you will need to restart your computer after you install Database Components SP4. To reduce this likelihood, stop the services and applications in the preceding list before you run Setup." I installed SP4 but I still had to do a restart. Perhaps this is because I did not stop the other instances? Anyway the restart is not necessarily easy to avoid. I will leave SP4 on the test machine for a few weeks before attempting another server
If it confirms about restart of services then you must follow to avoid any unnecessary errors in future. I don’t see any issues in restarting services as you’re playing on the test environment. WE’ve followed as suggested without any issues. Satya SKJ
