SqlDumpExceptionHandler and Fatal Error in Resource

Hi All
we encountered this issue on our node 2 of SQL cluster. the environment is : windows 2k3 EE, SQL 2k EE + SP4.
the SQL cluster runs fine on node 1. but when it failover to node 2, we have SQL jobs failure and found some "SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 98 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.." in the log file. this SQL alert "Fatal Error in Resource" is triggered. the SQL server sometimes hung there and App couldn’t access database at all. we compared the patches and didn’t find anything different on both node.
does anyone have same issue? we could’t find the usefull info online. any suggestion would be great.
thanks in advance.

Access violation error is the problem in SQL itself…
It is better to call MS CSS/PSS…
You may see the same build on both nodes but some of the files may not be updated properly on both nodes when you installed sp/hot fixes….

Yes there is not much we can do here and need to talk to their support. :-(. But Look for application and system logs for server wide issues and run checkdb on all databases to ensure there is a clean database in handy in event of server crash.

  1. Take backups of all the databases.
  2. Script all logins and permissions.
  3. Store information about DTS pckages and linked servers etc.
  4. Evict the troubled node and reinstall the Windows, then rejoin into cluster.
  5. This shoudl correct the binaries mismatch on the second node.
