SQLMail

In SQLServer 2000 I want to send emails when my tasks complete. I understand that Outlook 2000 needs to be installed for SQLMail to work. Is there a way to get this to work without having Outlook 2000 installed on the server? Can it send through SMTP or something? ———-

Not as far as I know.
You need MAPI to be installed, and afaik outlook is the only software to install MAPI

Thank you, that is what I thought. I found some info on the MS web site. Leave it to MS to make you buy another program just to use a feature in SQL Server.

———-
T Kelley
MS, MCDBA, OCA, CIW

Hi, Already chappy has answered ur question. However U are specifically taking about outlook installed on the server.
If u want u can install windows 2000 exchange client for mailing purpose
than outlook (because outlook is bundled with Office product).
Thanks. Rushendra
