Microsoft SQL Server 2005 – 9.00.3042.00 (X64) Feb 10 2007 00:59:02
Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 1) My server reports the above result when i executed select @@version after applying the service pack 2. Is this right?? Thanks
I believe 3042 is SP2 without hotfix…
with hotfix it is 3152…. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933097

does any body have any idea why after the installation of the sp2 , my version still shows sp1.
i am really confused
In your post you mentoined that your server reports build number 3042 which is SP2…
Now you are saying your server reports SP1… Where do you see this SP1??? Try running the following to see what SP you are on…
select serverproperty(‘ProductLevel’)

hi mohammed, if i run your statement it gives " SP2" but when i run select @@version now, the output is " Microsoft SQL Server 2005 – 9.00.3152.00 (X64) Mar 3 2007 05:22:48 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 1) " and also i applied the hotfix that you specified " KB 933097 X64" file.
my version now says above. but while installing all other got success while only 1 failed with the below reason, Product Installation Status
Product : SQL Server Database Services 2005 (MSSQLSERVER)
Product Version (Previous): 3042
Product Version (Final) :
Status : Failure
Log File : C:program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGHotfixSQL9_Hotfix_KB933097_sqlrun_sql.msp.log
Error Number : 29537
Error Description : MSP Error: 29537 SQL Server Setup has encountered the following problem: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Cannot find the object ‘dm_exec_query_resource_semaphores’, because it does not exist or you do not have permission.. To continue, correct the problem, and then run SQL Server Setup again.
why this is coming?? thanks
May be some installation failures…. Try running the repair against SQL SERVER SUPPORT SETUP SUPPORT FILES through ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS and then reinstall SP2.
Download SP2 again which has patch included in it. MohammedU.

is it possible we can uninstall sp2 with out effecting sqlserver 2005 is there any link which is having the sp2 with patch
because i tried to search ,but i didn’t get one
You can’t uninstall in any easy way without uninstalling sql server… Once SQL Server 2005 SP2 has been applied, it cannot be removed without uninstalling the entire product… Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2
