SSMS cannot connect to SQL2000 !!!

Using sql2000 query analyser I can connet to my SQL2000 virtual server. Using SSMS (with the same laptop/user/session) I cannot connect !! [xx(] Using SQLCMD i can connect ! [xx(] TITLE: Connect to Server

Any hints ? (also my .net 2.0 applications seem not to be able to connect
After failover of the instances of that node, reboot of the node and failback of the instances, SSMS could connect again ! Did anyone also experience this ?? [B)]
