Step by step guide to configure Reporting Services

Hi all We’re using Windows 2003 server and IIS v6. Could someone please provide the following:
1) a step by step guide on install and configure the reporting services
2) how to connect to the reporting services from the management studio I’m currently having problems connecting to the reporting services from the management studio where its installed on. TIA.

hi, 1 – This is rather straight forwrd, install you SQL RS, you will be ask for your Report and database server. 2 – You will have access to manage you report server through
http://servername/reportserver 3 – From there you can upload your reports Hope this helps AKTHAR

Hi Ok we’done the re-installation again from the start.
This time taking the default setup. On the machine that the reporting services were installed, we can now connect to it. My question is, how do I go about connecting to the reporting services from another workstation ? TIA.

hi , what do you mean by conecting to RS.
1- To view reports from another client PC –http://server/reportserver/folder…
2- to design and publish reports to RS – in visual studio , project properties-add report server url does this help? AKTHAR

Hi Akhtar Thanks for your patience.
We’ve installed the SQL 2005 and RS on one machine … call this Machine 1.
We used default configuration for setting up the reporting services.
On Machine 1, we can:
– connect to it via the Management Studio
– verified that the report manager is running We have Machine 2 which is the developer’s machine.
We’ve been trying to connect to the Reporting Services via the Management Studio on this machine but can’t seem to. Is this possible ? We’ve got different web applications here. Is it a good idea to have different reporting services instance for each web applications or should they all the web applications share the same reporting services instance ? Also, should the Report Server be installed on the same machine where SQL 2005 is installed or should it be installed on a different machine ? Would like to hear your thoughts on these. TIA.

‘ />] Well it is recommended for performance issues to have a report server, which is a seperate sQL server running reporting services. You dont have to run 1 instance per application, you can use the same instance. AKTHAR

Was just wondering if you can connect to it from a developer’s workstation. Also, if I wanted to format the ExecutionTime of the Globals collection to dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm<img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-7.gif’ alt=’:s’ />s … how would I go about doing this ? Another question, should the reporting service be installed on the same machine that SQL 2005 database is installed ? Would there be any performance issues if it was installed on the same server ?

yes i think if you have Mgmt Studio installed on a dev workstation you will be able to connect to RS You will have better performance if you have a seperate server for RS AKTHAR
