STEPS FOR new DBA

sorry guys.I am new sql server 2000 DBA . I have some quastions
what kind of genaral works should be know and what kind of quastions we get from programmers
what kind of ateps should be follow to become good dba . please help all kinds of neccessory things need to know and should practice . i am expecting all kind of stops or ideas even if i did not ask right way . bottom line is what a DBA MUST HAVE TO KNOW AND DO .Appriciate all kinds of answers and works i follow them SRJ2005

1. Read Books Online. I’ve read Books Online from start to finish for every version since 6.5. It takes time. You learn a lot though. 2. Buy good books and read those. Start with anything from Ken Henderson or Kalen Delaney. Inside SQL Server by Kalen is a great book to start with. The Performance Tuning Technical Manual by Microsoft Press is a great book also. 3. Read and participate in forums such as this one and www.sqlteam.com. 4. Do. Find projects to work on and expand your skills. Try things out when you see them in a book or online. Make yourself the expert. Work examples in SQL Server Magazine. Constantly stretch yourself.
