"The Self-Taught DBA" Article

Hello All- I’ve been in the IT field for about 6 years now and have dabbled with mySQL before but never done full blown DBA work. I am currently one of the system admins for the company i work for and my boss has asked me if i wanted to start learning SQL and taking care of the databases. He has given me about 6 months to learn as much as i can before making me responsible of the databases. So far, i have found many articles online but nothing that is really "step by step" on how to learn what i want to know, it all seems to be basic stuff on how to run simple queries and im wanting to learn all there is to know to become a beginner, intermediate and then advanced DBA. I came up on this "The Self-Taught DBA" article and thought it was a good read, but the books that the author suggests seems to be outdated and are for Server 2000. Can anyone compile a new list of books that are newer versions? I am also looking for any training videos that don’t cost an arm and a leg, or any "step by step" articles that wont confuse the hell out of me, heh. Ive done my searches on these forums before posting this and ive read and read, and been to sqlcourse.com, sql-tutorials.net and similar websites suggests by other members but like i said they are very very basic. First book as always is BOL. Also get your hands on the "Inside SQL Server 2005" book series. Subscribe to the SQL Server blogs run by the dev team members on MSDN and persuade your boss to spend some well-invested money to get some seminars. Presumably held by Solid Quality Learning.
