Turn off replication

Is there a way to turn off replication temporarily? In sybase i can do the following… SET replication OFF
GO
— do the activities which need not be replicated Go
SET replication ON
GO What is the equivalent in SQL2k? I think, therefore I am

I think there is no such relevant statement to execute.
