upgrade problem

My friend came with this problem… His server is running sql server 6.5 and sql server 7.0. he install a named instance of sql server 2000,and then run the sql server upgrade wizard. On the database selection screen, some of the sql server 6.5 databases are not listed.
He cancels the sql server upgrade wizard. he wants to ensure that the sql server 6.5 databases are listed in the wizard. for this any suggestions [?] ………pls tell me the procedure… ( I told him that u have to upgrade sql server 6.5 databases to sql 7 and then to 2000)

Hi,
you question is unclear to me , as you said *His server is running sql server 6.5 and sql server 7.0.*
*he install a named instance of sql server 2000*
if he installed Named Instance of SQL Server 2000 then why he need to upgrade to SQL 2000 ?

Referhttp://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2000/deploy/sqlugrd.mspx andhttp://www.sqlteam.com/item.asp?ItemID=9066 for further information on upgrading SQL 6.5 to 2K and it should be piece of cake if all the pre-requisite has been completed. Satya SKJ

You can not have sql 6.5 and sql 7.0 running at the same time. If he wants to see the sql 6.5 databases in the sql 2000 upgrade wizard he needs to switch to running 6.5 during the upgrade process and leave 7.0 offline.
