Using passive nore to perform backups…

Does anybody know if it’s possible to use the passive node of an active/passive cluster to perform routine backup operations while the active node is operational. SQL 2005 SP1. Would be nice to put the passive node to work for something useful. Thanks. Lindsey
The passive node does not have access to the shared array, so the answer is no. ——————————–

What are you trying to accomplish to perform routine backups to passive node… If you want you can add another drive to the active node for backups…

As explained passive will be sleep mode until the fialover is initiated from Active in case of any issues. DO you have any issues with the backups at the moment?

Thanks for the replies everyone. Was looking for a way to offload the backup overhead from the production (active) server as it operates 24 x 7 using different db’s based on work day around the world. Looks like the passive node just stays as insurance. Lindsey Lindsey
Thats a default configuration of Active/Passive cluster and it only comes into picture when there is a problem with active node, so nothing much you can do in this case. Satya SKJ

You can one additional disk to the cluster and not dependent on sql server and move the disk to the second node and run the backups to it if you want to utilize the second node… but for some reason if your second node it gone then your backups will fail…
