How can i register a server in analysis service

hi all,
Please help me with registering a new server in analysis service.whenever i try it i get the following error: DSO inffo:can not create temp directory c:/program files/miscrosoft analysis service/bin/…/help 80/metadata/metatemp 100/.please verify that you ve enough disk space. I searched the net for it and found nothing. I ve 1 gb of ram and 120 gb of hard drive. thanks & regards.

Hi Shama,
I guess you are registering a new server on your machine i.e. not the local one.
So for that you need to have your userid registered in olap administrator group /administrator group on that remote machine.
Then try registering that server in the same way you do while registering through EM for a sql server.

Yes then you have to set your account into olap administrator or administrator group on that remote machine.
Because what happens is in Analysis services there is no sa only windows authentication is there.
So when you try to register a remote server on your local one then local machine passes your windows credentials and validates in olap or admin group.

well people,
Regarding the for remote database server i can understand the problem ofolap administrator group user id.But i m unable to register the local server which is on my machine.And BTW it shoud get register and started by itself when we install the analysis service tool(i mean the foodmart cubes etc).But even for registering the local sql server on my machine im getting the following error:
"Unable to connect the registry on the server(local) or u r not a member of OLAP ADMIN group on this server"

For remote server registeration you need to be in olap group on the remote machine as your windows credentials will be verified on remote machine.
Same way for starting on local instance you should have proper priviledges on the local setup too.

Btw I’m having the same problem too while I’m trying to register the Remote OLAP server, but I’m having different error message that the title of the window is Connection to Server Failed, and the message detail is: Errors occured while connecting to 10.161.xxx.xxx
Cannot open connection to Analysis Server ‘10.161.xxx.xxx’.
Cannot conect to the server ‘10.161.xxx.xxx’.The server is either not starteded or too busy. is there anything wrong or I just miss something to do?? please help me too guys.. Ikhsan Aminuddin

In this case you can check whether the analysis services has started on remote server or not.
Also check for network issues if any and you can even try registering the AS server by specifying the server name

I have checked and started the analysis service on rempte server, but I can not register the server name,can the problem be issued in network area?? because the remote server is registered in a domain, but my PC is not registered in a domain.. please need further advice and knowledge.. Ensure the domains which are used have trust between them.
May check with your network administrator about any WINS problem that is not enabling register the server with name. Try to register with IPAddress of server. Satya SKJ

It’s almost like SQL Server.
Machine which you want to make server has to have services and like EM analysis manager is needed and like QA MDX sample application tool in needed. On all client machines you can install all but if you dont want services locally then you can prefer installing Only the client tool i.e. Analysis manager locally.

I’ve done checking if there is any issue related to the network, but unfortunately I can not figure out what is the exact matter of this problem, my friend’s PC can register the server just by adding the file HOSTS with the IP and the hostname of the remote server, altought we don’t register our PC in the same domain with the remote server’s domain, I try to do the same, but nothing is happened.. I also have reinstalled the SQL server and the Analysis Server and added the SP4 but another windows come up when I Tried to register it again, and the title is Connection to server Failed, the detail is :
Errors Occured while connecting to BI01.
Cannot Open connection to Analysis server ‘BI01’.
Error in data [possible data corruption]" so help me guys, what should I do to solve this problem?? tnx in advance for the answer.. Ikhsan Aminuddin

Ok,
Thx people for ur support.It seems our server is quite restrictive ,i mean i ve been refused the user rights on it by the admins.so i came up with the idea of using my machine as a server.Btw thx to ranjit, satya et.al coz there help im able to register local server on my machine in AS.
