Log Shipping on SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition

Hi, We need to implement Log Shipping on SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition. I have heard that there are some undocumented stored procedures that can be used for Log Shipping in Standard Edition but I haven’t got it as complete information as it is there on Enterprise Edition. Could someone please help us by directing to some specific piece of information that guides through implementing Log Shipping on SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition? Regards,
Sunil Bansal

There aren’t any undocumented stored procedure for log shipping and Enterprise Manager’s log shipping utility is available only for the SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition and SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition. For the Standard Edition is the Simple Log Shipper tool, which you can find in the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Resource Kit. Simple Log Shipper uses a linked-server relationship between the primary server and the secondary server.
Search on this site for BRad’s explanation on performing own log shipping.

Hi satya, can you or anyone else tell me, what the drawbacks are when using the simple log shipping tool in SQL Standard Edition? Thanks,
Daniel
There are no drawbacks in using pre-defined log shipping, you will in more grip to handle any issues in the transaction log restore. The tool from Resource Kit is similar to the Enterprise Edition’s log shipping wizard, so no issues as such. Satya SKJ
