pre-source data phase filter multi phase pump

I need to insert a header in a fixed-length text file. I’ve already come up with a few alternatives to accomplish the task, but would rather use a multi-phase DTS pump. I’ve read in many articles, to include Microsoft material, that the pre-source data phase filter can be used for many tasks, including writing a header, but there exists no explanation on how to do so. I’ve scoured the web for assistance but can’t find the solution. The multi-phase DTS pumps look to contain many attractive tools and I’m trying to become more adept at using them. Any help would be appreciated.
