Server performance degrading!

Hi everyone.
I need help – PLEASE!!!
We have two databases at the moment – one for OLTP and one for OLAP. The reason for this is that the OLAP part is VERY intensive and causes a huge degradation on performance if run with the OLTP bit.
We’re split the two onto two seperate servers. A DTS runs every evening to update the OLAP (latency is not an issue) server and then the OLAP server runs a schedule that generates summary data based on the data input by users. These summaries need to be run each time to get the correct info. This solution has worked fine for a while, but now – it seems that after the shedule finishes each evening the server nearly grinds to a halt. Not only SQL stops responding (or just about), the whole server does. We put the OLAP db onto another server (with 2 X 1GB processors) and the issue is still on going (therefore eliminating the probability that it was the server itself). A brief description – the app pulls out hundreds of thousands of rows from the tables that come from the OLTP environment and then inserts it into a VERY chunky table (over 1GB in size). This is probably not the best solution, but it will take months to rewrite. My issue is that I am having to restart this server each morning, and this doesn’t even guarantee that the server will run ok for the rest of the day. Please help!!!! Taz McCann Taz McCann
